Effects of infill walls on load resistance of multi-story RC frames to mitigate progressive collapse

چکیده

To study the effects of infill wall on progressive collapse resistance reinforced concrete (RC) frames with slabs, a macro finite element (FE) model was built using general purpose software OpenSees. The FE validated by existing test results. Then, subsequently used to predict potential eight-story RC frame including slabs and walls. numerical studies demonstrated that inclusion walls could increase ultimate load initial stiffness 70% 169%, respectively, compared bare frame. not only changed resisting path but also effectively improved redistribution ability evaluate reliability two-story sub-structure investigate behavior multi-story building, each story building in case column missing is compared. It found similar, except first story. Finally, series parameter were carried out quantify opening ratio, thickness compressive strength performance

Numerical Investigation of the Effect of Infill Walls on the Structural Response of RC Frames

The work presented herein sets out to investigate numerically, by means of nonlinear finite element analysis, the effect of un-reinforced concrete or masonry infill walls on the overall structural response of reinforced concrete frames under static monotonic and seismic loading. For this purpose, a nonlinear finite element package purpose built for the analysis of concrete structures is employe...

The Nonlinear Effect of Infill Walls Stiffness to Prevent Soft Story Col- lapse of RC Structures

Experimental or theoretical tests show that dramatically changes of infill area causes soft story mechanism. "Soft story" mechanism is the most frequent failure mode of reinforced concrete (R.C.) structures. This phenomenon is caused by the fact that the overall shear force applied to the building by an earthquake is higher at the base floor. If the lower story is not originally weakened, it is...

Comparison of the Progressive Collapse Resistance of Seismically Designed Steel Shear Wall Frames And Special Steel Moment Frames

In this study, the progressive collapse potential of seismically designed steel plate shear wall (SPSW) systems is investigated using the alternate path method, and their performances are compared with those of the conventional special moment frame (SMF) systems. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses are conducted to follow the progressive collapse of the structures, and their ability of absorb...

Effect of Structural Height on the Location of Key Element in Progressive Collapse of RC Structures

After the failure of an element in a structure, its loads should be redistributed on the other elements and the structure must provide some new paths to carry the load. If such new load paths are not provided, collapse progression will begin in the structure. As the beginning of progressive collapse in a structure is more sensitive to the missing of an element, the location of that element is m...
